POETRY: BEFORE I LAY MY HEAD TO REST

P

BEFORE I LAY MY HEAD TO REST

a VOICE TWISTS MY HEART

I HEAR a WHISPER TELLING ME, ‘IT’S TIME FOR ETERNAL SLEEP’

I FEEL THE NOOSE TIGHTEN AROUND MY NECK

A BOTTLE OF WHISKY IN MY HANDS

A DEEP NEED TO JUMP

JUMP TO FREEDOM

BUT WILL I BE FREE?

finally UNTANGLED FROM THE PAIN INSIDE

I HEAR MYSELF SAYING, ‘ITS GOT TO END’

AND THEN, NODDING OFF INTO ANOTHER NIGHTMARE – I AWAKE ONCE more

ITS A NEW DAY!

a VOICE RETURNS ONCE MORE, ‘FIND THE COURAGE TO CARRY ON FOR ONE MORE DAY’
